threesixfive, week 20

well, i made good on my promise and posted mid week; a story about colby. check it out. its a good one. :-). I've got one about molly i'll try to get up this week.
my birthday was wednesday, so it was a busy week of celebrating. i have some great pictures!!

sunday
happy mothers day to my sweet momma! for the past few years i've given her my blog book from the previous year. its an easy go to gift and she loves it.

monday
one of our youth and our sweet sweet babysitter, ms sara, came over or dinner monday night. she brought me a birthday gift from her and her family; this awesome cookbook! it has fancy 'foodie' food in it, and i can't wait to whip some of these recipes up! sorry the picture is sideways. :-/

tuesday
me and two of my best girlfriends went to dinner at my new favorite restaurant in austin. for dessert, a chocolate almond raspberry torte. comped for my b-day!

wednesday
my mom offered to watch the kids for a few hours so i could have a little time to myself. i decided to go kayaking on town lake in austin--something I've always said i want to do, but I've never gone down there and done it. i love kayaking, and lake austin is beautiful. it was perfect weather for an hour on the water.

thursday
with only a week left of swim school before we take off for the summer, colby graduated!!!! he can swim the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, and is now eligible to be evaluated for swim team!! so proud of my little man, and he was SO proud of himself!

friday
i told allen for my birthday present, i wanted to go to sea world with the kiddos, so my mom put some money towards it as well, and friday we spent the day riding rides, watching shows, getting splashed, and walking....lots and lots of walking.

saturday
molly had her dance recital saturday evening. no flash photography is allowed during the performance, so i had to get all my pictures taken beforehand. here she is in her tap costume. she did an excellent job!!

my mom has been staying with us for the last couple weeks while she finished up her school year here in round rock. tomorrow she heads up to rowlett for good. :-( her and dad still haven't found a house. they've made offers on a couple, but nothing has panned out yet. keep them in your prayers if you think of it.
I'm hoping to wrap up school this week, as our summer officially kicks of next monday with a trip to the beach followed by the crazy busiest summer we've probably ever had!!

have a fantastic week, and check back in a few days for a funny molly story!

inner child

this happened several weeks ago, but it's too funny not to document.
I was working on a fabric wreath and had all the fabric strips in organized piles on the floor.
my friend katie, who had been living with us for a couple months, was home and said

katie: the kid in me wants to just run through that and mess it all up.

colby: the what?!?

katie: the child inside of me.

colby: there's a child inside of you??!

me: yes, colby. katie's pregnant.

colby: you are?!?!

katie: no! amy! why would you do that?!

me: hahaha, I'm kidding colby. it's just a saying.

colby: I don't get it.

threesixfive, week 19

ok, seriously, i promise promise promise times ten that i will put some stories up this week. i've got some good ones on the kids I've been meaning to post for weeks, and I've got to make it happen before i forget them!!
the kids and i just got back into town a couple hours ago from north texas. we went up to see my dad lead worship at his new church; today was his first day. plus i got to be with my mom on mothers day, so it worked out well.
he did a great job. his new church is wonderful, and i can really see that its a good fit and the Lord is going to use him there. now they just have to find somewhere to live!!
allen and i were at a church leadership conference thursday and friday, so i've been doing a lot of traveling and driving and sleeping in not my own bed this week. needless to say, i'm looking forward to my own in about an hour and a half, give or take.

heres the week!

sunday
molly was on a photo kick, and took this actually not too bad picture of allen and i.

monday
my mom moved in with us this afternoon (she'll be here for a couple weeks, till she finishes up her part-time job at the school) and brought this game with her. its called headbandz. as you can see, you wear a card on your head, and can only ask yes or no questions to figure out what you are before time runs out.

tuesday
i took colby to chick-fil-a's mother son date 'knight'. we had a great time!!

wednesday
colby drew this picture of our snake, jake, eating a mouse. which reminded me that i needed to do exactly that. thanks colby.

thursday
our first day at the catalyst conference in plano. i absolutely love this conference and plan to go every year till i die, or they stop doing it. this years theme was Be Present. we heard from andy stanley, john c. maxwell, perry noble, matt chandler, and were led in worship by kari jobe, gungor, israel houghton. thats just the tip of the iceberg. its seriously amazing.

friday
the sunset on our way home. i don't often take pictures of the sky, but i thought it was super cool.

saturday
i got to look at a couple houses with mom and dad. they put an offer on this one, and are in negotiation on it with the seller. so they'll either be here in a couple weeks, or keep looking. :-/

my birthday is wednesday, so i'm hoping to get in a dinner with a couple of my best girlfriends this week, and a date with my husband. we're taking the kids to sea world on friday and saturday is mollys dance recital. all that to say, it should be a good week for pictures!!

be blessed and happy mothers day!!

threesixfive, week 18

its been a very full week. i'll get right to the pictures.

sunday
colby's been creating things again. :-) this time with some kinects (i think thats what they're called) allen gave him a couple months ago. they've been all over his room for days. he was particularly proud of this one.

monday
i got this recipe off pinterest. its blueberry maple refrigerator oatmeal. there are several different recipes for whatever suits your fancy; i also made mango almond. i know it doesnt look very appetizing, but its quite yummy, and healthy to boot.

tuesday
mollys been taking baths again so she can practice her breathing for swim school. i laughed when i walked in and saw this. she was obviously working very hard....

wednesday
awana derby race night. colby was going to do a mario (as in super mario brothers) car, but he couldnt find his mario character to glue to the top, after he'd already painted the white M on the hood. he decided to glue his marvel squinkies to the top instead. he didn't win anything, but there was marked improvement from last year, so we were all happy with that.

thursday
we went to the express game with some friends, and swam in the pool. i neglected to take a picture while we were there, but snapped this one on our way out when the kids stopped to check out the fire truck in the parking lot.

friday
our homeschool co-op had a end of year party with a young scholars exhibit, lunch, and games. we were there for 4 hours, and the kids were sufficiently exhausted when we left.

saturday
this is dads last weekend at our church after 17 years of leading worship. he will be leading worship, starting next sunday, at a church in rowlett, which is about 3 hours north of us. its absolutely what the Lord wants for them, but it will be a tough transition as i've never been more than 20 minutes from my parents. saturday night there was a big going away celebration service in his honor. this is a blurry picture taken with allens phone, but its all i got. this was the very last song of the night, and colby and molly ran up onstage and sang on my moms microphone with her. thats them towards the back. they're the short ones. :-)

so, an emotional weekend to say the least. dad led his last worship service at central this morning, and will head up to the new church tomorrow afternoon.
moms finishing up her job here, and will join him in a few weeks (she teaches sign language a couple days a week, so has to finish the school year). she's staying with us until then.
they've sold their house here, praise the Lord, but are still looking for something up there. dad will stay with friends in that area until they get settled.

allen and i leave wednesday to go to a conference in the dallas area. we went last year, and it was amazing, so we're super excited to go again!!
i won't have my pictures up until probably monday or tuesday next week.

have a great week and mothers day next weekend!!!

threesixfive, week 17

we had a fun week. allen left tuesday to fly to atlanta for the orange conference, and was gone till friday night. the kids and i found plenty to keep us busy while he was gone.

sunday
i was helping colby brush his teeth, and i looked down and saw a tooth in the sink!! i had knocked it out while i was brushing and he had spit it out! he didn't even know it was loose! we got a kick out of it to say the least.

monday
this came in the mail!! i love victorias secret. i want a pair of their university sweat pants. they look so comfy!

tuesday
allen left super early this morning for the conference. these were delivered later in the afternoon. he's so sweet. i love that man.

wednesday
the younger kids at awanas had their race tonight. they don't make pine cars like the older kids do, but they get to bring a matchbox car from home and theres a special track they get to race them on. mollys car won every race. i guess she picked a good one!

thursday
a group from our homeschool co-op went to the zoo in waco. my parents and grandparents came too. it was SO crowded, making it hard to keep our group of 30 together, so after about an hour we separated and continued on our own. we had a great afternoon, and enjoyed a picnic lunch together as a family.

friday
i read to the kids out of Matthew during school (what you have done unto the least of these, you have done to me), and we followed it up with making bags for the homeless. we assembled 15 bags and were able to deliver 4 of them that evening. i'll keep this basket by the door so we can grab it to take with us if we're driving into austin where we'd have the opportunity to give them out.

saturday
my theatre class's performance was this afternoon. they did a great job. i was very very proud of them!

and thats our week!! i don't know about where you're at, but its hot enough here that we just might hit the pool one day this week if time allows. i'm ready for summer!!

have a great week!

threesixfive, week 16

i hope you had a great week!! we certainly did!

sunday
we kicked off our new program for K-4th graders called kids252. theres a fun activity of some sort to set up the lesson, followed by a bible story and worship before they go to their grade level small groups. they had a great time!

monday
daddy made the kids a fun and inventive dinner. i couldn't get the picture turned the right way. tilt your head to the left. see the ice cream cone?

tuesday
after dinner we went out to the ballpark to watch a bit of the game and walk around.

wednesday
i'm running my first 5K saturday!! i had to go to austin to pick up my race bib.

thursday
i've finally started my spring wreath for my front door. it will instead be a summer wreath.

friday
we got these back today. not a very exciting picture, but its the best i could do. sorry.

saturday
yay for completing my first 5K! i ran the diva dash in austin with 2 friends from church. its a 5K trail run with obstacles (jumping over barricades, climbing a rope wall, water hurdles, balance beam, etc). i ran it in just over 40 minutes. i was very proud of myself and can't wait to do another one! allen brought the kids out so they could cheer me on and meet me at the finish line.

i have a busy week all leading up to my theatre class's spring performance on saturday afternoon. i have a lot to get done, so i don't imagine this weeks pictures will be terribly exciting, but you never know what may pop up during the week!

have a good one!!

all about girls

just a couple of things i've had the pleasure of hearing over the last few days thanks to my matter-of-fact, tell it like it is daughter....

we had one of the former youth groupers come through town, and she wanted to come by and visit with her new baby (3 weeks old and precious!!!). i was telling colby and molly about her and who she was, etc, before she came over.
me: her name is ms jessi and she has a brand new baby.
colby: is it a boy baby or a girl baby?
me: i seem to remember daddy saying its a boy, but i could be wrong. it could be a girl.
molly: i think its a boy baby.
me: why do you think its a boy?
molly: because girls babies aren't very useful.
me: what?!? why aren't girl babies useful.
molly: we just don't know a lot of girl babies. all the babies we know are boys, so the girl ones aren't very useful to us.

...it would seem 'useful' needs to be better explained to my 5 year old.
it would also seem that she doesn't truly feel that way, because that baby was indeed a girl, and i assure you, molly couldn't get enough of her.

this morning, we were working on school and we heard our birds chirping outside (the ones that make a nest every year above our front door and spend 4 months pooping on my porch). the kids got up and ran to the door to see what was going on.
colby: the mommy bird is looking for food
molly: no thats the daddy bird. the mommy is sitting on the nest.
colby: how do you know thats the mommy?
molly: because she has eyelashes.

then they got into quite a complicated discussion about eyelashes and eyebrows, and i don't even know. i stopped trying to keep up.
i did hear molly emphatically state that "eyebrows don't count!!"

seriously. where does she come up with this stuff?
