threesixfive, week 21

our school year is officially over!! unofficially we'll continue through the summer, but we'll just do reading (which we should all be doing anyway, i believe), and grammar. i've been pouring over curriculum websites and reviews all week (definitely not the most exciting thing I've ever done) trying to decide what to use next year when i have two kiddos to teach with a grade level between them.
my brain shut down last night around 9pm, and hasn't been functioning at full capacity since then.
tomorrow we leave for 4 days at the beach with a group of our 12th graders, so i'm definitely looking forward to a few days of no schedule or agenda.

here are the pictures from our week!

sunday
games with daddy after church and lunch.

monday
our last week of school was pretty light, so even though monday is our busiest day of the week, we had a couple hours at the end of the day to go swimming. the neighborhood pool we usually go to is closed on mondays, so we drove to the next town north and went swimming at the blue hole; a dammed up area of the san gabriel river. its neither blue nor a hole, but its cold and wet and free, so they can call it what they want.

tuesday
i made these!!! they're capri length 'yoga pants'. i am beyond proud of myself! i used two of allen tshirts (one for the legs, and one for the fold over waistband). yes, i made an article of clothing that fits, and i would actually not be embarrassed to wear in public. woohoo! this is where i got the instructions if you're interested.

wednesday
the kids enjoyed the blue hole, but still wanted to go to a real pool, so wednesday after school and lunch we sent for a few hours. we all came home a little pinker than we left.

thursday
the preschool at RRCA (which meets at our church) had their end of year party thursday afternoon, a 'drive-in movie". the kids all made cars and 'drove' them to the youth building where they parked and watched a movie on the projectors. since allen let them use the youth building, we were invited to come as well.

friday
we hadn't gone to the library in forever, so friday afternoon we made a trip and got about 15 books, plus a few movies. that should last us till we get back from the beach next week!

saturday
one of colby and mollys friends had his birthday party, so the whole crew got together for an afternoon at the pool. colbys second from the right and mollys third form the left.

i just realized we went from not swimming at all to three days in one week, plus they had their last swim school day thursday, so technically they swam 4 out of 7 days.
then they'll be in the ocean monday thru thursday.
i'm getting pruney just thinking about it!

have a great week!!
enjoy your first week of summer vacation (for those of you to whom that applies)!!

threesixfive, week 20

well, i made good on my promise and posted mid week; a story about colby. check it out. its a good one. :-). I've got one about molly i'll try to get up this week.
my birthday was wednesday, so it was a busy week of celebrating. i have some great pictures!!

sunday
happy mothers day to my sweet momma! for the past few years i've given her my blog book from the previous year. its an easy go to gift and she loves it.

monday
one of our youth and our sweet sweet babysitter, ms sara, came over or dinner monday night. she brought me a birthday gift from her and her family; this awesome cookbook! it has fancy 'foodie' food in it, and i can't wait to whip some of these recipes up! sorry the picture is sideways. :-/

tuesday
me and two of my best girlfriends went to dinner at my new favorite restaurant in austin. for dessert, a chocolate almond raspberry torte. comped for my b-day!

wednesday
my mom offered to watch the kids for a few hours so i could have a little time to myself. i decided to go kayaking on town lake in austin--something I've always said i want to do, but I've never gone down there and done it. i love kayaking, and lake austin is beautiful. it was perfect weather for an hour on the water.

thursday
with only a week left of swim school before we take off for the summer, colby graduated!!!! he can swim the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, and is now eligible to be evaluated for swim team!! so proud of my little man, and he was SO proud of himself!

friday
i told allen for my birthday present, i wanted to go to sea world with the kiddos, so my mom put some money towards it as well, and friday we spent the day riding rides, watching shows, getting splashed, and walking....lots and lots of walking.

saturday
molly had her dance recital saturday evening. no flash photography is allowed during the performance, so i had to get all my pictures taken beforehand. here she is in her tap costume. she did an excellent job!!

my mom has been staying with us for the last couple weeks while she finished up her school year here in round rock. tomorrow she heads up to rowlett for good. :-( her and dad still haven't found a house. they've made offers on a couple, but nothing has panned out yet. keep them in your prayers if you think of it.
I'm hoping to wrap up school this week, as our summer officially kicks of next monday with a trip to the beach followed by the crazy busiest summer we've probably ever had!!

have a fantastic week, and check back in a few days for a funny molly story!

inner child

this happened several weeks ago, but it's too funny not to document.
I was working on a fabric wreath and had all the fabric strips in organized piles on the floor.
my friend katie, who had been living with us for a couple months, was home and said

katie: the kid in me wants to just run through that and mess it all up.

colby: the what?!?

katie: the child inside of me.

colby: there's a child inside of you??!

me: yes, colby. katie's pregnant.

colby: you are?!?!

katie: no! amy! why would you do that?!

me: hahaha, I'm kidding colby. it's just a saying.

colby: I don't get it.

threesixfive, week 19

ok, seriously, i promise promise promise times ten that i will put some stories up this week. i've got some good ones on the kids I've been meaning to post for weeks, and I've got to make it happen before i forget them!!
the kids and i just got back into town a couple hours ago from north texas. we went up to see my dad lead worship at his new church; today was his first day. plus i got to be with my mom on mothers day, so it worked out well.
he did a great job. his new church is wonderful, and i can really see that its a good fit and the Lord is going to use him there. now they just have to find somewhere to live!!
allen and i were at a church leadership conference thursday and friday, so i've been doing a lot of traveling and driving and sleeping in not my own bed this week. needless to say, i'm looking forward to my own in about an hour and a half, give or take.

heres the week!

sunday
molly was on a photo kick, and took this actually not too bad picture of allen and i.

monday
my mom moved in with us this afternoon (she'll be here for a couple weeks, till she finishes up her part-time job at the school) and brought this game with her. its called headbandz. as you can see, you wear a card on your head, and can only ask yes or no questions to figure out what you are before time runs out.

tuesday
i took colby to chick-fil-a's mother son date 'knight'. we had a great time!!

wednesday
colby drew this picture of our snake, jake, eating a mouse. which reminded me that i needed to do exactly that. thanks colby.

thursday
our first day at the catalyst conference in plano. i absolutely love this conference and plan to go every year till i die, or they stop doing it. this years theme was Be Present. we heard from andy stanley, john c. maxwell, perry noble, matt chandler, and were led in worship by kari jobe, gungor, israel houghton. thats just the tip of the iceberg. its seriously amazing.

friday
the sunset on our way home. i don't often take pictures of the sky, but i thought it was super cool.

saturday
i got to look at a couple houses with mom and dad. they put an offer on this one, and are in negotiation on it with the seller. so they'll either be here in a couple weeks, or keep looking. :-/

my birthday is wednesday, so i'm hoping to get in a dinner with a couple of my best girlfriends this week, and a date with my husband. we're taking the kids to sea world on friday and saturday is mollys dance recital. all that to say, it should be a good week for pictures!!

be blessed and happy mothers day!!

threesixfive, week 18

its been a very full week. i'll get right to the pictures.

sunday
colby's been creating things again. :-) this time with some kinects (i think thats what they're called) allen gave him a couple months ago. they've been all over his room for days. he was particularly proud of this one.

monday
i got this recipe off pinterest. its blueberry maple refrigerator oatmeal. there are several different recipes for whatever suits your fancy; i also made mango almond. i know it doesnt look very appetizing, but its quite yummy, and healthy to boot.

tuesday
mollys been taking baths again so she can practice her breathing for swim school. i laughed when i walked in and saw this. she was obviously working very hard....

wednesday
awana derby race night. colby was going to do a mario (as in super mario brothers) car, but he couldnt find his mario character to glue to the top, after he'd already painted the white M on the hood. he decided to glue his marvel squinkies to the top instead. he didn't win anything, but there was marked improvement from last year, so we were all happy with that.

thursday
we went to the express game with some friends, and swam in the pool. i neglected to take a picture while we were there, but snapped this one on our way out when the kids stopped to check out the fire truck in the parking lot.

friday
our homeschool co-op had a end of year party with a young scholars exhibit, lunch, and games. we were there for 4 hours, and the kids were sufficiently exhausted when we left.

saturday
this is dads last weekend at our church after 17 years of leading worship. he will be leading worship, starting next sunday, at a church in rowlett, which is about 3 hours north of us. its absolutely what the Lord wants for them, but it will be a tough transition as i've never been more than 20 minutes from my parents. saturday night there was a big going away celebration service in his honor. this is a blurry picture taken with allens phone, but its all i got. this was the very last song of the night, and colby and molly ran up onstage and sang on my moms microphone with her. thats them towards the back. they're the short ones. :-)

so, an emotional weekend to say the least. dad led his last worship service at central this morning, and will head up to the new church tomorrow afternoon.
moms finishing up her job here, and will join him in a few weeks (she teaches sign language a couple days a week, so has to finish the school year). she's staying with us until then.
they've sold their house here, praise the Lord, but are still looking for something up there. dad will stay with friends in that area until they get settled.

allen and i leave wednesday to go to a conference in the dallas area. we went last year, and it was amazing, so we're super excited to go again!!
i won't have my pictures up until probably monday or tuesday next week.

have a great week and mothers day next weekend!!!
